CODE features an open-air, pedestrian gallery that promotes public circulation from the Mall to Water Street, creating a dynamically engaging new approach to the west end of our Mall. At the center of the site is an exterior courtyard, with a sunken water feature and amphitheater for public and private outdoor events. As the building gently climbs from the Mall to Water Street, a series of beautiful rooftops are populated with intensive green plantings.
The project provides a variety of retail spaces on its ground floor along with the main lobby entry on the Downtown Mall. A state-of-the-art 200+ seat theater serves both tenant specific uses and local community events.
The Irving Theater is a 200 seat, state-of-the-art event space located in the CODE building. With its own distinct address, the theater is physically located along the Water Street side of the mall. This state of the art theater is equipped with a 16’ x 9’ backlit LED display, and is a Codebase, CODE building and Charlottesville community asset.
Including retail space and food stalls has always been part of the original vision of the CODE building. Coming together as a community includes the fusion of work and food.
